What is Acne?

Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and bacteria. It usually appears as pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, or nodules on the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. Acne can affect people of all ages but is most common during adolescence due to hormonal changes.

Causes of Acne

Excess oil production by sebaceous glands. Clogged hair follicles with dead skin cells and oil. Bacterial infection (Propionibacterium acnes). Hormonal changes during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, or stress. Genetics – family history of acne. Lifestyle factors – poor skincare, diet, or use of comedogenic products.
