Introduction

Dolo 650 is a widely used paracetamol (acetaminophen) tablet that helps reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain. Each tablet contains 650 mg of paracetamol, which works by blocking chemical messengers in the brain (called prostaglandins) responsible for pain and high body temperature. It is one of the most commonly prescribed and over-the-counter medicines in India, known for its effectiveness, fast action, and safety when used in recommended doses. Dolo 650 is suitable for adults and older children and is often advised for fever, headaches, muscle pain, toothaches, back pain, menstrual cramps, and body aches due to infections like cold and flu.

Uses

Dolo 650 is primarily used for reducing fever and relieving mild to moderate pain. It works by lowering elevated body temperature and blocking pain signals in the brain, providing quick and effective relief. The medicine is widely prescribed to manage fever caused by conditions such as infections, flu, cold, malaria, or viral illnesses, and is also commonly given after vaccinations or surgeries to control high temperature. Apart from its antipyretic properties, Dolo 650 serves as an analgesic, helping to relieve different types of pain such as headaches, migraines, toothaches, muscle and joint pain, back pain, shoulder pain, menstrual cramps, and even post-operative discomfort. It is also useful for easing body aches, throat pain, and general discomfort associated with common cold or viral fever. In addition, Dolo 650 is often recommended to reduce fever and soreness after vaccinations, helping individuals recover comfortably.

Precautions & Interactions

Dolo 650 should be taken with caution, especially by individuals with underlying health conditions. It should be avoided in cases of liver disease or liver damage, as paracetamol is metabolized by the liver, and excessive use can lead to liver toxicity. Consuming alcohol while taking this medicine can further increase the risk of liver injury. Always follow the recommended dosage — usually one tablet every 4–6 hours, not exceeding four tablets in a day. Those with kidney problems or on dialysis should consult their doctor before taking Dolo 650, as long-term or high-dose use can affect kidney function. People who are allergic to paracetamol or any of its ingredients should avoid this medicine, and if any allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulties occur, medical help should be sought immediately. Dolo 650 is generally safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision to avoid any complications. Patients with malnutrition, dehydration, or chronic alcohol use need to be extra cautious, and those with low body weight may require a reduced dose. In terms of drug interactions, Dolo 650 should not be combined with other medications containing paracetamol to prevent overdose. It may also interact with blood thinners like warfarin (increasing bleeding risk), anti-seizure drugs such as carbamazepine and phenytoin (reducing its effect), and tuberculosis medicines like rifampicin or isoniazid, which can strain the liver. Certain antibiotics and antifungal drugs may also affect paracetamol metabolism by altering liver enzyme activity. Hence, it’s always advisable to inform your doctor about any other medicines you’re taking before using Dolo 650.

🔍 Side Effects

Dolo 650 is mostly safe when taken as directed, but like any medicine, it may cause side effects in some individuals. Common and mild side effects can include nausea, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, dizziness, drowsiness, and mild skin rashes or itching. In rare and more serious cases, it can lead to signs of liver damage, such as yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, and pain in the upper-right abdomen. Allergic reactions, though uncommon, may occur and include swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, which require immediate medical attention. Taking doses higher than recommended can result in overdose, potentially leading to acute liver failure.
